Unconscious Bias

Offering a wide range of award-winning Unconscious Bias training programmes - learn how bias can damage your company’s talent and business development

Unconscious Bias programmes

Unconsciously, we tend to like people who look like us, think like us and come from backgrounds similar to ours. Everyone likes to think they’re open-minded and objective, but research shows that beliefs and values gained from family, culture and a lifetime of experiences heavily influence how we view and evaluate both others and ourselves.

In business, Unconscious Bias can be costly and can cause us to make decisions that are not objective and to potentially miss opportunities. Therefore, in order to attract and retain the best talent, organisations must create a climate of inclusion where everyone has the space to excel, a culture where employees are recruited and progressed purely because of their ability.

Our highly engaging range of Unconscious Bias training programmes have been designed for all personnel, ranging from a basic introductory course through to a more intense specialist programme for your HR team.

"The session by PDT has really moved forward the subject of Unconscious Bias within our organisation and has opened eyes across the team to micro-behaviours which can individually and collectively lead to underperformance. This has given us a springboard from which to move forward to improve achievement and fulfilment levels of all staff.”

Head of Inclusion and Diversity, Financial Services Organisation

All of our programmes can be delivered live, virtually, (great for global teams) through one of our engaging, live, interactive webinars or via face-to-face (encouraging delegate interaction) as required, either on a one to one basis or as part of a group.

PDT also offers off-the-shelf and bespoke programmes for trainers, facilitators and talent managers within your organisation who may need a slightly different approach.

Your trainers require robust, in-depth knowledge of Unconscious Bias in order to, not only deliver a successful Unconscious Bias programme, but to be able to answer any questions raised and manage any sensitive topics broached as part of the facilitation. We begin with a detailed explanation of Unconscious Bias, what causes it and tips and tools to prevent it. The delivery style takes the form of open discussion rather than classic facilitation, as we, at PDT, have found that the most impactful learning takes place through self-reflection and sharing experiences.

Trainers then assess their knowledge, style and sensitivity around the subject, delivering a one hour session giving the assessor a chance to assess and provide feedback on the delegate’s ability to use the information gained within the programme.

    Participants will be able to:

    • Understand the prevalence and nature of bias and the importance of ensuring its communication in leveraging a non-judgemental approach.
    • Look at their own experience of bias and how it can be used to illustrate bias in future training.
    • Complete the business case for Unconscious Bias reduction and its value in behaviour change.
    • Complete a toolkit for reducing bias as an individual and as a people manager.
    • Create a bespoke workshop for your in-house trainers to deliver.
    • Understand the insights as to the questions and resistance they are likely to meet when taking your organisation through their inclusion journey.
    • Give individual feedback on knowledge and delivery style to improve impact of the training.
