The People Development Team is delighted to announce that chairwoman and co-founder, Angela Peacock, has been made “Freeman of the City of London”!
One of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies still in existence today – first presented in 1237 – the Freedom of the City originally gave ‘Freeman’ the right to trade, enabling members of a Guild or Livery to carry out their trade or craft in the Square Mile. Today it remains a unique part of London’s history to which many people who have lived or worked in the City have been proud to be admitted in the Chamberlain’s Court at Guildhall.
Angela Peacock co-founded PDT Global in 1998 and has since helped grow the company into a global leader in diversity and inclusion training.
Synonymous with a direct, no-nonsense approach to inclusion training – always leaving a lasting impact on delegates and inspiring them to make a change – Angela has built a reputation as one of Europe’s leading speakers in the fields of unconscious bias, women’s leadership and diversity & inclusion.
Angela said, “I am absolutely thrilled to have been made ‘Freeman of the City of London’. On being bestowed this huge honour I looked back at how few women have been made Freemans, and therefore how far I had come in my journey. From humble beginnings, growing up in the East-end of London – not far from the hustle and bustle of the Square Mile – to building a company that has helped transform the inclusive cultures of hundreds of organisations. We have been able to encourage senior leaders, traditionally set in their ways and unwilling to view diversity and inclusion as a key driver to business success, to re-evaluate their entire business strategy based on their new-found understanding of how dangerous unconscious bias can be and how beneficial an inclusive culture can be for the company and its employees. To now see so many of our clients win awards in the fields of recruitment, HR and staff retention – while regularly featuring ‘Top Employers’ and ‘Leaders in Business Lists’ – is so incredibly rewarding.”
